    Riegel, Edwin 'Ed'

    Edwin ‘Ed’ Herbert Riegel passed away on Monday, February 24, 2020, at the age of 93 years, beloved husband of Esther Riegel of Medicine Hat.

    He also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Kenneth (Pat) Riegel, Dorothy (Jim) Baker and Brian (Marilyn) Riegel; six grandchildren, Julie, Angela, Alisha, Alison, Tabatha and Carla; eight great grandchildren; his brother, Milbert (Bertha) Riegel and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Dorothea Riegel and eight siblings.

    Edwin was born on April 18, 1926 in Lipton, Saskatchewan, the second youngest of ten children. He received his education at Freeland School, Central Collegiate of Regina and Lipton High School. He operated Riegel’s Transport from 1946 to 1949 in Lipton. He married the former Esther Klaus on July 8, 1948. They moved to Medicine Hat where he was employed at Revelstoke Lumber. In 1949 they returned to Lipton where they farmed for four years before returning to Medicine Hat. He was employed at Sept’s Hardware, Gardner Motors, City of Medicine Hat Gas Department and served district Evangelical Missionary churches as pastor at Wisdom and Little Plume, Alberta.

    After retirement he and his wife served as seniors visitation pastors at Hillcrest Church.

    The funeral service was held in the Hillcrest Evangelical Missionary Church (3785 - 13th Avenue S.E) on Thursday, on February 27, 2020 with Pastor Jamie McDonald officiating. Interment in the Hillside Cemetery.
