    REINHARDT, Herbert Friedrich

    June 8, 2020

Herbert Friedrich Reinhardt passed away peacefully on June 3, 2020. He is loved and missed by his wife Christa, his children Dan (Anne) Reinhardt in Three Hills, AB; Laz (Denise) Reinhardt in Bend, OR; Sharon (Dave Kinnon) Reinhardt in Kelowna, BC; Norman Reinhardt in Calgary, stepsons Peter (Haley) Mrazik in Romania, Marty (Marni) Mrazik in Calgary, AB, and by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Herb's 91 years were filled with ministry. He initially resisted during his teen years, but eventually surrendered his life to the call of God. After seminary and a brief pastorate in Calgary, the call took him and his family to India, where he served 22 years as a missionary, serving under World Gospel Mission at South India Bible Seminary. He and his wife Evelyn were beloved by the students, and many nights they came for spiritual counsel that went late into the evening. Many Christian leaders in India today were shaped by their time at SIBS.

In 1982 they came back to Canada to serve as pastor in the Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada. In 1992 the family was shocked to lose Evelyn to cancer. It deeply affected Herb. Four years later it was abundantly evident he needed a life partner. It was then that God brought Christa Mrazik into Herb's life, and they were married in 1997.

Moving to Edmonton, Herb had the opportunity to preach in an East Indian church. The original call of God to India re-ignited as Herb was drawn to a vibrant young Pastor Anison Samuel. Herb heard God say, "Help that young man." And so began 15 years of ministry at Zion Apostolic Church. A strong and loving relationship remained till the very end.

Because of Covid-19 restrictions, a private memorial service was held Saturday June 6, in Edmonton to honour his memory. Those who wish to see a recording can click here:
Herb grew up in the Chilliwack EMCC church (Cross Connection Church, 9310 Williams Street, Chilliwack, BC). Another memorial service will be held there at a later date, when the travel restrictions are lifted for people to gather.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Zion Apostolic Church in Edmonton, Alberta.
Your prayers are appreciated for the family during this time of loss.
