Greetings EMCC Family,
Two recent recommendations from the House of Commons Finance Committee’s pre-budget report could have significant implications for faith-based ministries and pro-life organizations in Canada. Recommendation 430 proposes removing the advancement of religion as a recognized charitable purpose under the Income Tax Act, and Recommendation 429 proposes revoking charitable status from anti-abortion organizations.
In response, MP Cathay Wagantall—highly respected in Parliament and a long-time supporter of the National Prayer Breakfast—is championing a petition urging Parliament to reject these recommendations. The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada (EFC) has also prepared resources to help Canadians contact their Members of Parliament, making it simple to speak up for these freedoms.
By joining our voices together, we can have a significant influence, even as we pray for God’s guidance. We urge you to consider:
1. Signing the petition before August 15 (apologies on the short notice): Petition e-6586, which calls on the House of Commons to:
2. Sending a letter or call your MP using the resources here: evangelicalfellowship.ca/protect-charitable
Both steps will help strengthen the collective impact of this effort.
As we give thanks for Canada, pray for those in authority, and persevere in serving our communities, may the Lord work in and through us to accomplish His purposes in these times.
In Christ,
Scott Clubine
Vice President
