Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada

Who We Are

The Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada is a family of over 100 churches, leaders, and global workers participating with Jesus in spreading the Gospel and His blessing.

EMCC believes God has called us to become a movement of followers of Jesus deeply invested in the people around us, so that individuals, churches, communities, and nations can flourish as God intended.

With help from our global mission arm, EMCC World Partners, churches and leaders can learn with, connect, and mobilize others to adaptively participate in Jesus’ mission everywhere.

Our national team serves our pastors, congregations and global workers through alongside support,  resources, training and network opportunities.

Our Mission

We are a family of churches and disciple makers following the ways of Jesus, depending on the Spirit, blessing others and participating in Jesus’ mission everywhere

Our Vision

Our vision is to make disciples who make disciples, invest in leaders who develop other leaders and encourage churches and disciple makers to multiply new churches and communities of followers of Jesus on mission to the world.

Our Values

We value the ways, words and works of Jesus.
We are Christ-centred and Commission-driven.
We pursue His Great Commission and Great Commandment.

We value listening and responding to the Holy Spirit.
We are Spirit-dependent—attuned to His voice, guided by His presence, and empowered  by His leading.

We value relationships.
We prioritize coming alongside and helping one another to become growing, multiplying followers of Jesus.

We value humble servant leadership.
We are learning to be like Jesus in our attitudes, behaviour and character.

We value collaboration.
We work together intentionally and prayerfully to advance the mission of Christ.

We value mutual learning and partnerships with our global partners.
We serve our partners with cultural awareness and sensitivity.

We value the next generation.
We are passionate about seeing the next generation follow Jesus and take their integral place in the life, leadership, and mission of the Church.

We value mutual respect in our differences.
We seek to be people of grace and truth. We work toward unity in essentials, liberty in non-essentials and love in all things.

Strategic Plan

By 2027, we will have proactively prepared the way organizationally and operationally to be future-ready to serve our EMCC leaders (pastors, global workers and global partners) and EMCC churches and opened the door to support the next generation, women in leadership, future leaders, future expressions of the church and global mission sending.

By 2027, we will have strengthened our reflex toward multiplication. We will tangibly see disciples making disciples, leaders developing leaders and churches multiplying new expressions of the church.

By 2027, we will have engaged and reengaged with all our member congregations and have seen marked evidence of engagement through increased member contributions and participation, increased church-to-church collaboration and a stronger collegiality among our credential holders. We will see evidence of our churches actively engaged in mission locally and globally.

By 2027, we will be defined by our Christ-like character, marked by Spirit-dependence, servant leadership, accountability, and mutual learning.

Our Heritage
and Mission Matters

The Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada is a 'denomination', or an extended family of churches, participating with Jesus in His Mission. A denomination is simply “known by a given name”, and we, along with many other North American branches of the Christian Community, grew from pioneer settlements of European migration.

17th, 18th, & 19th Centuries

Our story flows from the predecessors of both the Evangelical Church in Canada (ECC) and the Missionary Church of Canada (MCC), who merged in 1993 to form the EMCC. The ECC story has emphasized the life of spiritual renewal, of holy living (a Pietist commitment to live distinctively, set apart for God’s good purpose in and through us), and of having hearts “warmed” to the presence of God’s Spirit in our lives, which was characteristic of John Wesley’s early Methodist teaching.

Our MCC background brought deep Anabaptist values of community, mission, and discipleship so characteristic among Swiss Mennonite streams. When Wesleyan evangelism brought to life the Person of the Holy Spirit in the lives of our predecessors, a movement of Jesus-led counter-culture emerged.

20th & 21st Centuries

Our converged story carries with it the call to live a life marked by following Jesus on mission together. We value our heritage not by trying to recreate the past, but by following the trajectory of God’s calling which led our predecessors to bless and serve all people in the name of Jesus, as well as preach and live out the difference Jesus makes in our lives across Canada and around the world. In all we do, we seek to uphold unity, by serving Jesus together with like-minded partners wherever we go.

We encourage you to discover any of our 150+ congregations. Explore more about our historically significant Camps and Colleges, which continue to help people on their journey with Jesus and to develop Christian leaders for the future. Engage with our cross-cultural and global efforts to bless others and invite them to follow Jesus, and join us in our investment in the next generation of Jesus-followers and leaders.

This is our story. It's the journey we’re still on as we stay centred on living like Jesus, for Jesus, and in the power of the Spirit of Jesus.

“Our movement has been characterized by a willingness to embrace renewed commitment to following Jesus together on mission to the world.”
