Abe and Diane have focused on training church leaders in Ukraine for over three decades. The last decade that training has focused on prayer, evangelism and church planting.
The denomination they partner with in Ukraine has about 1,900 churches, though this number has declined significantly as the war has displaced communities and forced many congregations to close or meet underground.
Because of that, their ministry now focuses on opening Centers of Hope, which are churches that are community-based instead of building-based. The spiritual need is huge as people daily face the reality of their mortality. The vision is to see 100 Centers of Hope in operation, and over a period of three years for them to be self-sustaining. Right now, there are about 30 Centers somewhere in process from initiating Bible studies with seekers to actually functioning with worship services. The leaders and teams receive training, encouragement, and many tools at monthly workshops led by Abe.
The focus for this coming year is to continue training and finding more couples whom God is calling to move to needy areas and be His Presence in that community: doing community projects to rebuild, touching lives of the needy and displaced, providing activities for young people and children, and discipling.
In addition, an interactive website is being developed to make all the training materials accessible including biblical courses in the Ukrainian language under the name of New Life for Churches.
