Clean Water: India, West Bengal (#139)
Pastor Assiz works in seven villages just outside of Kolkata. Each village uses surface water that is very contaminated for their drinking and cooking. In one village a shallow well with a hand pump has been successful in bringing safe, potable water to the village. Pastor Assiz is attempting to place one well in each of the remaining six villages.
Part of his strategy to reach the predominately Hindu communities
is helping the villages to develop as a safe communities. The work that he is doing in bringing this kind of development allows him to have a greater voice for the Gospel. He is showing that the Gospel message involves the needs of the whole person through this holistic approach.
Each well is estimated to cost between $2,500 - $3,000.
